Browser compression works best on PDFs with photos or scans. Text-only PDFs may shrink very little. You’ll see the exact size before downloading.

How to use Compress PDF

  1. 1

Choose a PDF. It is opened inside your browser, not uploaded.

  2. 2

Pick a compression level. Every level shrinks the images and keeps text selectable and searchable.

  3. 3

Download the smaller PDF. If it cannot be made smaller, we tell you instead of making it worse.

Questions about Compress PDF

How much smaller will my PDF get?

It depends on what is inside. PDFs made of photos or scans usually shrink a lot. PDFs that are mostly text are often already compact and may only shrink a little. We show the before and after size so you can decide.

What is the difference between Light, Balanced and Maximum?

All three shrink the images inside your PDF and leave text, links, form fields and page sizes as they are, so text stays selectable and searchable. Light keeps images sharpest; Maximum reduces their resolution and quality the most. If a PDF contains only scanned images, Maximum may redraw its pages as images, since there is no text to lose.

Why is browser compression limited?

Some techniques, such as font subsetting and rewriting every object, need desktop-grade software. Browser compression focuses on images, which are usually the largest part of a PDF. Advanced server-side compression is planned.

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. Compression runs in your browser and the file never leaves your device.
